Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern were hoping to roll back the years in 2018, and launch an old-school Fergie style attack at rivals Man City’s Premier League title campaign. However, an assault on regaining the FA Cup is the main focus.

The Red Devils were notorious under Sir Alex Ferguson for hunting down teams as the season turned into the home straight after the Christmas fixtures. That just hasn’t happened this year, and recently being dumped out the Champions League has left only the FA Cup to go for as Mourinho bids to bring silverware to the club for the second season running.

However, our regulars in the back room of the bar think that there are two games left in the final few months that will define the Red Devils season.

United invested well in the winter window with the addition of Alexis Sanchez and, will be hoping that the move can be the ‘Eric Cantona’ moment for this United team going forward. Looking to the next couple of months of the season is our landlord, who is checking out what two games could wrap up United’s campaign this year…

Manchester City Away

This Manchester Derby could be a bigger one than normal. Surely Mourinho will be using it as a yardstick to what improvements United in the summer months to edge closer to the runaway leaders next season. A huge match for the fans having lost against them in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, Mourinho will be desperate to get one over on City to keep the faithful onside.

If City win the league with ease against United, it could be a defining image in the years to come as the landscape of English football changes.

Spurs in the FA Cup Semi-Final

The FA Cup is United’s only realistic chance of silverware this season, that’s the end of it. With the Premier League nailed on to hit the rival blue side of Manchester and the Champions League was seemingly a step too far this year, they really need a strong showing here against Spurs.

If Mourinho wants to bring his third major trophy in two years to the club, then progression to the final is a must.
