Despite looking shaky in the opening couple of weeks, Jurgen Klopp’s side finally seem to have found the consistency they need to amount a challenge for top four football, something they desperately lacked last season.
The Merseyside outfit are scoring for fun at the moment, having bagged 16 goals in their previous five games – with five of those goals coming in an impressive 5-1 demolition of Hull City.
The clubs summer business seems to have paid of tremendously as new signings have settled quickly, specifically Sadio Mane and Joel Matip who have both been an integral part of the side so far this season.

James Milner
Jack-of-all-trades, and arguably king of a few, I’m fairly certain if you were to look up ‘versatile’ in the Oxford Dictionary you’d find a photo of James Milner. The Englishman’s transition to left-back this season has been seamless and has already proven his worth by keeping both Eden Hazard and Riyad Mahrez in his pocket in impressive victories over both Chelsea and Leicester.
Not only has Milner managed to fill in for the hapless Alberto Moreno at left-back, he has a whopping four goals and one assist to his name already and has become Liverpool’s main penalty taker too.
Hard-working but with technical ability to match, he may not be the most exciting player in the world but Milner is a good old fashioned footballer who can consistently do a job just about anywhere you ask him to.
Nathaniel Clyne
How Kyle Walker is preferred in the England set-up over Nathaniel Clyne goes over me completely. Many fans compare the two and state their ‘similarities’, but here at the Tavern we just don’t see it.
Clyne is not only a gifted wing-back with an excellent end product when going forward, but he is first and foremost a defender, and an ever-improving one at that. Doubts about his frailty at the back have almost been vanquished following an excellent last season and an even better beginning to this one.
The former Southampton man is as good of a threat as you’ll get when attacking down the wing as his devastating pace combined with tight ball control and eye for a cross make him a real handful and mean many of Liverpool’s attacks go through him.
