Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Jose Mourinho can run Man City close this season to build momentum up for the following campaign.

Man United are enjoying their most successful season since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, currently sitting in second place behind runaway leaders and local rivals Man City. However, even with the addition of Alexis Sanchez, our punters still feel there are still some key areas that the Red Devils need to address.

United have carried a lot of deadwood and passengers on the ride since David Moyes took over. Many of them have either struggled to make an impact or struggled to get minutes on the pitch since the departure of the Scot.

With Mourinho in charge, it seems United have turned a corner and the club can now start to become a little more ruthless. With that in mind, our landlord has taken a look at two players that really need to up their game in order to be here next season…

Ander Herrera

The Spanish midfielder is a firm fan favourite here in the tavern with our regulars. However, with the capture of Nemanja Matic in the summer alongside Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera has seen his first-team chances decline in the Premier League.

The current player of the year is United through and through and gives his all in every match, but our barman feels he has to make Mourinho see what an integral part of the team he can be.

If he continues to get lost in the shuffle, it could spell the end of his time at Old Trafford.

Victor Lindelof

The big Swede arrived at Old Trafford this summer and it has taken some time to adjust to life in England and especially the physicality and pace of the Premier League. Lindelof needs to show this second half of the season that he is adjusting and can be a top player alongside, many in the tap room presume Eric Bailly when he returns from injury.

If Lindelof can show willing, many think he has the talent to be a top defender for the Red Devils. That being said, at a club like Man Utd, you need to adjust quickly – and if the season ends and Lindelof still isn’t at his best, Mourinho will surely consider replacing him.
