Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are discussing the knock-on effects of the craziest winter transfer window to date for some of the players.

With only one incoming of note to Old Trafford, many of the regulars anticipated more outgoings as Jose Mourinho looks to trim his squad ready for more new arrivals in the summer. Especially with the World Cup fast approaching, many of the fringe players have moved on in other teams to gain regular minutes in order to be on the plane to Russia.

Many of the Red Devils’ stars were linked with a move away this winter, it’s mainly the young players going out on loan that have left apart from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was involved in the swap deal for Alexis Sanchez.

Marouane Fellaini

The Belgium midfielder is still without a contract extension as talks seem to be at a standstill, after Fellaini’s humiliating seven-minute cameo appearance against Spur, many of the punters feel that possibly Fellaini’s time is up at Old Trafford.

It’s hard to see where he will fit in the team apart from a sub role to change the shape of the game, however by not moving this winter, the midfielder will find it hard to force his way into the highly talented Belgium squad.

Sergio Romero

Sergio Romero is a class back up keeper for Mourinho to have to hand, however, his appearances seem to depend on whether United are in a cup competition or not. These limited opportunities have seen him make only seven starts this season.

The Argentine keeper is highly capped for his country but a lack of regular game time will surely be hindering him to add to his 93 caps in the future.
