People are beginning to see what the Jose Mourinho tenure may look like at Manchester United and it’s definitely got our resident Old Trafford fans talking here in the Transfer Tavern.

So far they have seen some pretty drab football on offer with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City out-classing them but, more recently, the signs are there that the team is beginning to take note of the Portuguese’s words.

The Red Devils were by far the better team last weekend against Arsenal and really should have won in a display that was tactically strong and very controlled in possession.

It was the classic Mourinho blueprint for winning a game against a big side and they so nearly did it so positives need to be taken.

However, we’ve also seen another trait with Mourinho in the lack of young players on show. Whilst Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have played no manager wouldn’t consider them.

It’s some of the other youth players that need a break that our landlord worries about and thinks that these TWO that have been shipped out on loan could never make it now for the Red Devils….

James Wilson

Many wanted to see James Wilson succeed but it looks more than likely now that he will not be playing in the Premier League in the near future.

The young striker scored just once this season in the EFL Trophy before rupturing his cruciate ligament whilst on loan at Derby and that combination looks to have scuppered his United hopes.

He can still be a decent striker, but perhaps not at the level he’ll have initially hoped.

Adnan Januzaj

Januzaj was being touted as the next big thing on Manchester United’s wing but since 2013/14 he has completely fallen away, and is now on loan at Sunderland trying to reignite that spark.

Is he going to? Well, that really is up for debate but loan spells at the likes of Borussia Dortmund in recent seasons have suggested he’s not going to cut it at the level United expected him to be at.

Much work to do, then.
