Our Manchester United fans inside the Transfer Tavern are wondering what the future holds for their Armenian midfielder after seeing the former Borussia Dortmund man struggle with life under Jose Mourinho.
The fall of Henrikh Mkhitaryan this season has been drastic, following his early season form it seemed as if the midfield man was going to be a key component in United’s success. However, throughout the last few months, Mkhitaryan has been struggling to even make the bench.
Rumours have soon started to circulate in the Tavern around our regulars of a winter move out of Old Trafford for the 28-year-old. Alongside many of the first-team players whose contracts are expiring at the end of the season, United could see a lot of outgoings this January.
Reports suggest that Mkhitaryan could be used as a bargaining tool in a bid to bring a new face into Old Trafford, and Mourinho could use the Armenian to secure one of the signatures of either Joao Mario or Mesut Ozil.
Our landlord takes a look at two other players that could follow Mkhitaryan out of the door…
Luke Shaw

Despite his recent form improving, Shaw’s overall United career has largely been a disappointment owing to bad luck with injuries and generally poor consistency.
United may look to recoup some of the money they splashed out on the left-back before he could leave for free in the summer after a difficult time of things under Mourinho himself. Clearly a talent, he may have to go elsewhere to fulfil his potential.
Marouane Fellaini

The Belgium midfielder has been holding United to ransom over his contract extension, and with a couple of clubs suggested to be showing interest, it may be a good time to cash in.
It’s no secret manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Fellaini and United are seriously lacking in the midfield department, but he may opt to sell in a bid to bring in new faces. Though he certainly has his uses, United should look to cash in on the former Everton man if he’s going to leave.
