The Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern love the youth academy policy Mauricio Pochettino has brought to the Lillywhites in recent years since he moved to the club. Indeed, the Argentine’s decision to blood talent has made him a cult figure in north London.

While many a club uses the youth players as a way of bringing money into the club, Spurs have in recent years, especially under Pochettino, utilised their academy and blooded many a youngster into the squad. Although not every single youngster is guaranteed a chance at the club, many may just not be at the level Poch requires.

Harry Kane is the prime and obvious example put forward by our regulars of how you can become a success without being a big money signing. Under the Argentine’s coaching and detailed eye, perhaps Tottenham could save the funds to truly improve their squad in the years to come.

The glass collector thinks that by believing in youth, you have a never-ending stream of confident and raw youngsters knowing that they have a better chance of succeeding there than anywhere else.

Josh Onomah

The midfielder is currently on loan at Championship side Aston Villa and enjoying a good run in the side under Steve Bruce in the second tier of English football. Having not had the room for him in the current attacking first team line up, Onomah made the brave decision to drop down a division to gain some vital first-team minutes to hopefully impress Pochettino from afar.

It seems now, that the Championship is more his level of play and is thriving at Aston Villa, so perhaps he should consider a more permanent arrangement in the not so distance future.

Marcus Edwards

The young and talented midfielder has never really reached the ‘Messi’ heights, Pochettino outstandingly linked him with when he first broke onto the scene. Having been full of promise, Edwards has carried the Messi comparison around with him like a huge weight on his shoulders over the past 12 months.

Maybe a new lease of life might do the player some good and finally shrug off the unwanted Messi tag, that seems to be hampering his career.
