It’s been a tough couple of weeks for Rangers in the Scottish Premier League and their fans here in the Tavern are understandably worried about making it into the top two come the end of the season!
The Gers have endured a tough start to life back in the top division of Scottish football but when you’re rebuilding, it’s never going to be easy, even for a club of Rangers’ stature.
A recent 4-1 defeat to Hearts was followed by a 1-1 draw with Ross County meaning as things stand, Aberdeen have overtaken them into second place in the table, not good news when it comes to European aspirations come the end of the campaign.
But with plenty of time left to turn things around, the punters here in the bar are quietly optimistic that results can improve going forward.
And there’s also plenty of hope in some of Rangers’ younger stars that are currently coming through the ranks at Ibrox and the impact they can have moving forward.
So, with that in mind, here are 2 wonderkids that could emerge for Rangers in the second half of the season…
Billy Gilmour
There’ve been some fantastic Scottish players throughout history and coming through Rangers’ academy right now is midfielder Billy Gilmour, who has been tipped to have as good a future as some of the best we’ve ever seen.
At just 15-years-old, we’ve seen Gilmour feature in both the U17’s and U20’s for Rangers and he’s been earmarked by the fans in the Transfer Tavern as one of the most promising players of his generation.
There’s real hope that with the right development and coaching, he can go on to become a real star – something that gets the Rangers fans here in the pub very excited indeed.
David Bates
Slightly older than Gilmour, there’s also plenty of promise that former Raith Rovers defender David Bayes can be a big player for the Rangers first-team in the coming months.
He’s got plenty of potential and after going to Ibrox on loan, he made the deal permanent earlier this year, much to the disappointment of the Raith fans, who saw him as one of their biggest players going forward.
With the right amount of play-time, Bates could be featuring sooner rather than later, especially with the summer clearout that is expected when the summer transfer window rolls around.
