It’s been an excellent week for the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve seen the Scottish champions finally restore some pride in a European sense. 

A pulsating 3-3 draw with Manchester City, the Hoops helped forget the 7-0 thumping they endured on a miserable night in Barcelona a few weeks ago.

Crucial to that game was a certain Moussa Dembele, who has so far proved to be a masterstroke signing by Brendan Rodgers.

Having largely paid back the compensation fee he commanded upon joining from Fulham following a stunning hat-trick against Rangers, the Frenchman is looking like quite a bargain.

Well, for the Bhoys propping up the bar, the 20-year-old’s impact has led them down memory lane.

Though Dembele is the flavour of the month in Glasgow (well, one side) right now, the Hoops have previous in pulling off transfer masterstrokes.

With that in mind, here’s a look at THREE other top bargain buys for the club in the last 10 years.

Ki Sung-yueng

Plucked from relative obscurity back in 2009, Ki Sung-yueng has been a strong performer in Britain ever since.

After signing for Celtic from FC Seoul, the South Korean midfielder was a lynchpin in their engine room, regularly providing goals and assists.

In fact, he did enough to earn a move to Swansea City not long after, where he still plays in the Premier League today.

Victor Wanyama

Another midfield lynchpin, Victor Wanyama was brought to Glasgow from Belgian minnows Beerschot in 2011.

Now one of the toughest enforcers in the Premier League, the Kenyan cut his teeth on these shores during his two years with SPFL giants.

Infamously scored in THAT win over Barcelona, though did so much more vital defensive work in his two years.

Virgil van Dijk

Now perhaps the best defender outside of the Top 4 in the Premier League, the signing of Virgil van Djik was a huge one for the Bhoys.

Though the Dutchman’s spell in Glasgow was a fleeting one, he proved a wonderfully gifted (yet resolute) central defender during his two years.

Sold to Southampton at a huge profit, the 25-year-old was a rock in the rearguard as the club won two Scottish titles.
