The Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have been slightly disappointed with Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the helm of the club – but they have been delighted with his transfer policy...
Despite suffering from a lack of success in recent years, Liverpool have built quite the first team squad under Klopp – with some of the world’s most sought after talents choosing a career in red under the lights at Anfield.
Our landlord has been questioning the Liverpool faithful on who they think their most important player is, and whilst of course names like Sturridge and Coutinho are a given – he is far more interested in the players that receive less recognition.
The players that do a job for the club week in, week out – but don’t receive all the plaudits on the regular TT newspaper’s back pages…
In fact, he thinks that there are a number of Liverpool stars who deserve far more credit from the Anfield faithful.
With that said, these 3 Liverpool players are incredibly underrated – Agreed?
James Milner
James Miler has been at the centre of a lot of jokes here in the Football Transfer Tavern, with the experienced midfielder regularly touted as the most boring player in the Premier League.
In reality however – Milner is one of the most consistent footballers in the league, with the midfielder rarely ever having a bad game.
Granted, he has never been an outstanding footballer; but you don’t hold a spot in the Premier League or the English national team for all these years whilst being a bad footballer.
He joined Liverpool with very little fanfare and has done an excellent job when called upon at the club.
He deserves far more credit.
Roberto Firmino
Roberto Firmino had a slow start to life at Anfield, but towards the end of last season he made a real breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp.
Firmino played ahead of Sturridge on a number of occasions last season – and the team news was rarely ever greeted with a cheer from the Liverpool section of the Tavern.
Right up until he would score the winning goal, the Liverpool faithful would be hoping that he would be the one to be substituted.
He has transformed into an excellent attacking midfielder, and serves as the perfect bridge between midfield and attack in the Liverpool first team.
Emre Can
Emre Can looked excellent last season following the arrival of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool; but the majority of the Liverpool fans in the Tavern still see him as just a utility player in the club’s first team.
One particularly vocal member of the Anfield faithful in the Tavern has described Can as a jack of all trades, but a master of none – but that doesn’t shine Can in the light that he deserves.
Whenever he plays he is guaranteed to put in a solid performance, and he excelled last season whilst playing in positions that he might not consider his speciality.
Like Milner, Can is a player that can always be relied on – and at just 22 years old, the best is yet to come.
Hugely underrated.
