Man United fans had a torrid time of it last season under the reign of Louis Van Gaal, despite winning the FA Cup they had a poor campaign in the Premier League, with their only European prospects this coming season being the Europa League.
After a sub-par performance from the Red Devils over the last few years, the Old Trafford faithful have plenty to look forward to going into the 2016/17 season. With Jose Mourinho taking the reigns, a lot will be asked of the players over the coming nine or ten months.
Although they will not feature in the Champions League next season – the Portuguese manager will still want success in the Europa League and will want his side to go all the way on every front.
In his first press conference since taking over in the Red half of Manchester, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager told reporters he wanted “everything” this season.
A bold aim for a side that has not won the Premier League title since 2013, Mourinho will need more than everything from his players to make that want a reality. If his dream for the club is to come to fruition then United will need some sensational performances from players that you may not expect.
With that in mind, a group of United regulars here in the bar have come up with their tip of THREE players that they reckon will surprise a lot of fans this season…
Memphis Depay

The Dutchman was tipped for greatness when he arrived at Old Trafford last summer, but has not gone on to be the player that United fans expected, yet.
At 22-years-old the former PSV man still has plenty of time to become a leading light in Manchester and under the guise of a new, more attacking, manager this could well be his season.
Ashley Young

The England international enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance in more of a wing-back role under Louis Van Gaal and showed enough to prove that he has got what it takes to play at the top level.
Now 31, he can bring more than just his pace to a side, with a decade of Premier League experience under his belt the former Aston Villa man would be an asset to any side.
Phil Jones

A man in need of bit of a resurgence in his career, the former Blackburn surrender will surely look to grab any chance thrown his way by Mr. Mourinho with both hands.
Jones arrived at United as the most promising centre-half in English football but after a couple of seasons being deployed in various roles the 24-year-old’s progression has gone slightly awry. Given the chance, Jones could go on to be an Old Trafford mainstay for years to come.
United fans, we want to hear from you! What do you make of this list? What other players could surprise a few people next season? Let us know below…
