Jose Mourinho is beginning to get to grips with his Manchester United squad and our resident Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern have largely agreed with what he’s done.

They’re happy that he’s taken Wayne Rooney out of the side and, perhaps more importantly, out of the spotlight whilst they also like the more frequent use of Ander Herrera in midfield.

They’re pleased that Eric Bailly has started well and looks set to make a decent enough partnership with Chris Smalling whilst the icing on the cake has to be Marcus Rashford being given game time.

They would like to see Paul Pogba play in a more advanced role and hope that Juan Mata’s stint in the side is a pretty lengthy one, but overall they’re content with Mourinho’s squad selection.

They’re also pleased some of the deadwood like Matteo Darmian are set to leave and our landlord reckons that in that fashion these three might be gone in January too….

Michael Carrick

Still a good player and United fans would probably like to see him stay, but it looks as though Mourinho will not be making a space for him any time soon.

He’s been limited to cup games so far this season and may seek a move away from Old Trafford in January in a bid to try and enjoy the last few years of his career as much as possible.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

The only shock here is that he hasn’t actually left yet.

The German World Cup winner was left in no uncertain terms by Mourinho that he would not be playing this season and duly hasn’t appeared for the Red Devils at all this year.

He still has a lot to offer to the right club, though, and so interested parties are likely to be queuing up to secure his signature.

Ashley Young

The winger has seen himself fall down the pecking order at United and must be thinking about a move away.

Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are all ahead of him in Mourinho’s thoughts and he must be aware of that given his lack of playing time this season.

Again, he still has ability to offer and would be a decent signing for some clubs.
