There are some teams that are really made to suffer and Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a rocky few years to say the very least! But now they’re back and will be looking to make up for lost time.

And after a turbulent few years, Rangers are back in the Scottish Premier League.

Led by former Brentford manager Mark Warburton, Rangers are on the up and will be hoping to push their rivals all the way this season.

They’ve made a decent start and sit second in the table after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock last weekend.

They’ll hope to keep the pace this weekend but we’re wondering if there are any players in this current crop that aren’t getting the credit they deserve.

The likes of Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace are always receiving praise for their performances but are there any unsung heroes in this squad?

So with that in mind, here are THREE Rangers stars that deserve more credit in Warburton’s side…

James Tavernier

After five years with Newcastle at the start of his career, full-back James Tavernier had a tough start to professional football with fruitless loan spells and lack of appearances.

But when he joined Rangers in 2015 he shone, scoring fifteen goals and making over 50 appearances as they won the Scottish Championship.

He’s picked up where he’s left off and is a real star in this team.

If he’s playing well then Mark Warbureton’s side can do well this season.

Joey Barton

Former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton surprised a few when he made the move to Rangers this summer.

He’d been offered the chance to play Premier League football with Burnley, but still took up the opportunity to feature for Rangers, who were back in the top flight.

He’s a slightly more defensively-inclined midfielder these days but when he’s on-form, he can be a real game changer in the middle of the park.

Composed, calm and aggressive, he knows all the tricks of the trade and will be a great player going forward for the Gers.

Phillipe Senderos

Manager Mark Warburton conducted most of his transfer business early on in the window, but Phillipe Senderos was brought-in late to add a bit more muscle at the back.

And what a signing it could prove to be.

The Swiss international has bags of experience from playing all over the world, but he’s perhaps best remembered for his spell with Arsenal back between 2003 and 2010.

He’s a calm, composed figure to have at the back and whilst he might not be a starter week-after-week, he’ll be useful when injuries and suspensions creep in as the season progresses.
