There is a murmur of excitement at the Transfer Tavern from the Crystal Palace fans and Frank de Boer looks set for his first season in charge.
When Alan Pardew returned to Crystal Palace, a club where he spent four years as a player, the stars seemed to align for him to take Palace to the next level.
Unfortunately, the most memorable moment Alan Pardew had during his time as Crystal Palace manager, was doing a little dance when his side scored in the FA Cup final, only for Manchester United to go on and win it anyway.
A less than stellar time in South London, Pardew also had his fair share of questionable transfer dealings during his time as Palace boss, some of which are still on the books at Palace and should probably be sorted out by new manager Frank de Boer.
On that note, here are the three players Crystal Palace need to go to forget the Pardew era, once and for all.
Connor Wickham
Let’s face it. Connor Wickham is a Championship striker at best, in 108 Premier League games in his career he has scored 18 goals whereas Benteke scored 15 league goals just last season. Granted, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury last season so his playing time was down but that is a very difficult injury to come back from, best to forget this whole saga and get him off the books sooner rather than later.
Bakary Sako
Another injury prone player, Bakary Sako missed the start of last season due to injury, he also missed some games through the midway stage again due to injury.
Another average player, Sako featured in seven league games last season where he managed to tally up zero goals and zero assists. Much like Wickham, we think Frank de Boer needs to move Sako on and forget he ever put on the Palace shirt.
Yohan Cabaye
In Cabaye’s last two seasons with Palace, he has contributed nine goals and four assists in 65 games. Most of those games came from central midfield where he should be contributing to both attack a defence and wound up doing very little in both areas.
For Newcastle, he wasn’t as good as many people thought either, managing four goals and eight assists in 34 league games during the 11/12 season where Newcastle finished 5th. The only reason Cabaye is a Palace player now is because Pardew liked him, but with the other players on this list, does that tell us all we need to know about the French midfielder?
