Our Liverpool fans inside the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for positive meetings between Jurgen Klopp and FSG this month ahead of the upcoming window.

After a disappointing summer window in terms of not securing Virgil Van Dijk’s signature, Klopp will be hoping for a more ruthless approach this January, in a bid to secure a top-four finish. As you can imagine, it’s proven to be a hugely frustrating time of things on Merseyside.

Our regulars think that much will be made of Philippe Coutinho’s possible departure and surely if Klopp can retain his services for the second half of the season, it’ll seem like a new signing to many of our regular Kopites.

Still, FSG and Klopp should be looking at ironing out these two transfer issues early on in the window to avoid a drawn-out process and possibly unsettling the squad. Our landlord takes a look at the two areas, Klopp needs to desperately strengthen…

Goalkeeper

Klopp this season has heavily rotated his goalkeepers in a bid to establish a permanent number one. Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have failed to impress, so much so it’s hard to not warrant Klopp to possibly look elsewhere in this January window.

It’s a problem that has troubled the Reds for years now and purchasing a top class option to sit between the sticks could really extend a sense of calm across the rest of the Reds’ backline.

Centre-Back

A leader on the pitch and a defensive organizer is exactly what Klopp needs to ensure a top 4 finish. At the start of the season, this type of player was sorely missed, over recent weeks it seems to be getting better but Liverpool still looks to be lacking something.

Indeed, neither Joel Matip of Dejan Lovren look anything better than average and the addition of someone to come in and organise their defence could make Liverpool realistic title challengers in the future.
