It really is crunch time for Manchester United with vital games coming up for the Red Devils in the Premier League and the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho seems to really have got his side pulling in the same direction and even though they took a bit of a while to get going this season, our landlord believes Mourinho will be happy with a top four finish and the Europa League, bearing in mind the Red Devils secured the EFL Cup back in February.

With that said, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a big summer transfer window from Mourinho, with many ins and outs expected at Old Trafford. Though there are lots of speculation about who will join the club, there are murmurs going around of who may be leaving the Red Devils as well.

It is well documented that Mourinho has not always backed youth and some of those players leaving may be forced out in order to fulfill their potential. Whilst United have a strong and well recognised academy, not every player cuts the mustard in the first team and our landlord has been looking at which young players may have to leave in the summer.

Let’s take a look at his findings…

James Wilson

High hopes were made out for Wilson when he bagged two goals on his debut against Hull City in 2014 but since then the striker’s most notable contribution to football was throwing up on the pitch whilst on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion on New Years Day in 2016.

Injuries hampered another loan spell at Derby County this season and the common view from the United fans in the Tavern is that Wilson should go establish himself elsewhere as they cannot envisage the young Englishman getting a chance under boss, Jose Mourinho.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Although the Dutchman has made his fair share of performances from the bench this season in order to close games out, our landlord believes Mourinho’s constant search for a centre back means Fosu-Mensah may have to go elsewhere to fulfill his potential.

The former Ajax trainee is certainly talented enough to succeed at the top level but our landlord feels he needs to be closer to a Premier League first team then he currently is to reach that potential.

Guillermo Varela

The 24-year-old is on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt at present but with Mourinho seemingly preferring to play Ashley Young as a make shift full back instead of recalling Varela, our landlord feels the Uruguayan must leave in order to fulfill his potential.

With age not seemingly on his side in order to break into the United first team, our resident Red Devils in the Tavern agree that it is time for Varela to move on.
