Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premier League season, and challenging cross-city rivals Celtic for silverware seems a long way off for the Blue half of Glasgow in their current state.
The Ibrox outfit have brought in Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, in the hope of getting closer to Celtic. Gerrard arrives with a tough job on his hands, Celtic won yet another treble last season and Rangers limped to a third-placed finish.
Gerrard has shown ambition in the Transfer market. Talents such as Connor Goldson, have signed from Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion. The centre-back will really solidify the defence at Ibrox next season. Goldson is one of a host of new arrivals in Rangers. Gerrard has also utilised the loan market to bring in Lassana Coulibaly from Angers and forward Umar Saddiq from AS Roma.
With the volume of new quality additions, it seems time is up for some of the Rangers squad.
With that in mind, here are two players who should be shown the Ibrox exit door before the season gets underway…
With just six Scottish Premier League appearances last season, it is difficult to see why Rangers should persist with Lee Hodson.
An average right-back, he is not the quality Rangers need if they plan to get on a level par with Celtic, or even Aberdeen.
Gerrard should show Hodson the exit door. Indeed, the 26-year-old is just a reminder of darker days at Ibrox and his exit could have a boost that goes far beyond improving quality on the pitch. This is a rebuild, the deadwood needs to go.
Once a star in a Brentford side who looked simply too good for League One, Forrester’s Rangers career hasn’t gone quite the way he would have wanted it to when he signed at Ibrox.
Spending last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, it seems a return South of the border is on the cards for the midfielder. He’s not been a fixture in Glasgow for a while now and, while he served a purpose in the lower leagues, it’s time for him to go. Rangers have moved on from Harry Forrester, that much is for sure.
