Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Klopp can invest the Philippe Coutinho money wisely to finish the season strong.

Following the Brazilian’s move to Barcelona, our landlord thinks that Liverpool are now like a kid in a candy shop this transfer window. Having already secured the signing of Virgil Van Dijk from feeder club Southampton, Klopp has made is move early on this winter.

One of the many reported players linked to Anfield is Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman but on the condition that Emre Can completes his move to Juventus, with the German’s contract due to run out at the end of this season. As you can imagine, the idea of landing Strootman is a popular one here in the Transfer Tavern.

The Holland international looks like he is of interest to those on Merseyside and this transfer window seems to be a little merry go round of players that will cause a domino effect around Europe. With money to burn, perhaps the Oranje star won’t be the only one…

Having said that, our regulars take a look at two players that should follow Strootman to Liverpool this winter window…

Riyad Mahrez

The Leicester City midfielder handed in a transfer request in the summer and since then his form has been that of the Premier League winning season, when he won Player of the Year.

A player with Premier League experience and bags of creativity to replace the departed Coutinho could be a real coup for Klopp. In a similar mould to the Coutinho, Mahrez would excite the Anfield crowd and add something a little different to the already formidable attacking line.

Jack Butland

The Stoke goalkeeper could do a lot worse than going to Liverpool. A very impressive stopper and an England international, Butland could be the key to Klopp’s team. A steady No.1 and one that could create that stability Liverpool’s back line have needed the majority of the season, giving the whole team far more confidence.

If Klopp can secure Butland, it could be one of his signings of the season.
