The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see what their young side does this season.
After playing some of the best attacking football in the country, and combining it with one of the best defences, the team came agonisingly close to winning the Premier League title – only to fall at the final few hurdles.
A lack of title challenging experience was partly to blame for the club’s falling by the wayside, though if the players can use last year’s story as a positive – then surely they could be the outfit lifting the trophy this time around next May.
Mauricio Pochettino is aiming to build on his high pressing tactics and will hope with another pre-season the tactics he trains into his side will see them clinch first place.
He’s also been busy in the transfer market, adding extra options and with his emphasis on attack our landlord thinks this will be Spurs front four for 2016/17…
Christian Eriksen
Eriksen is the master craftsman in Spurs’ armoury and will be once again key to any success the team have.
The former Ajax man pulls the strings in behind the attackers whilst he also carries a significant goal threat himself from open play and free-kicks.
He’ll be out on the left for Spurs but will likely tuck in to influence the game more down the middle of the pitch.
Erik Lamela
On the other side of the club’s frontline is Erik Lamela down the right.
The Argentine started life at the club slowly but has gradually grown into the player Spurs thought they’d bought to begin with.
Lamela has excelled under his compatriot Pochettino and similarly to Eriksen will look to cut inside and unleash his left foot when he gets the chance.
Harry Kane
Kane was last season’s top scorer and is hugely important to anything Spurs try to do in this campaign.
He looked jaded at EURO 2016 for England and the White Hart Lane crowd will be hoping this doesn’t carry on into the new season.
The 22-year old started 2015/16 slowly but soon found his shooting boots and if he can get back to his best – which he surely will – Spurs could be sitting pretty.
Vincent Janssen
Pochettino has identified what everyone seemed to with even a cursory glance at the Tottenham squad – they needed a new striker.
Dutchman Janssen comes in with great goal-scoring form in the Eredivisie behind him and the club will hope he’s more Luis Suarez than Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
He’s come in to take the load off of Harry Kane and if the two can dovetail expect goals at the Lane.
