Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the board can beat their London rivals Chelsea in replacing the ageing Petr Cech this summer, to kick-start an overhaul of the team.

Cech, this season has started to look like Old Father Time is catching up with him, after years of outstanding service to the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal. The Gunners are in much need of an overhaul of the team, and the goalkeeper is the area our regulars want Wenger to start with. Having been recently linked with highly-rated RB Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi, our resident Gooners are dreaming about his potential arrival, though Chelsea are reportedly keen too.

Arsenal are in dire straits at the moment, out of all domestic competitions and not one member of the team is exactly covering themselves in glory. Many of the punters had been calling for David Ospina to replace Cech in recent weeks but after his performance in the Carabao Cup Final, the need for a top quality goalkeeper has become more apparent.

Our landlord feels that the Gunners need to be aggressive in their action towards bringing Gulacsi to the club, and here are his TWO reasons why they simply must beat Chelsea to the punch…

Foundation

Cech was a fantastic keeper in his hey-day, but his three years at the Emirates have been by far his worse to date. If Wenger is to stay on next season, a foundation from back to front needs to be laid, and it should start with a new goalkeeper, that’s for sure.

Arsenal desperately need confidence at the back and Cech for all his experience has had a hand in letting in some silly goals already this season. Gulacsi is reaching his prime years and the smart move would be for the Bundesliga star, who commands his box with such authority, it could even help the defence.

Steal a march on the rivals

Chelsea are in a severe nosedive this year, having won only three Premier League games in 2018 and if things don’t improve drastically in the summer the Blues could be in Arsenal’s position next year. With that being said, the Gunners need to cut the gap down between them and the top-four teams, and everyone in the pub is in agreeance that it starts at the back.

As a bonus, to outmuscle your rival will give them the psychological edge going into the new season.
