It is an emotional day for the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Mirror links Steven Gerrard, who is set to leave at the end of the season, with a move to LA Galaxy.
The Anfield skipper has six months left on the end of his current contract and he has said that he will not join any other English club once he has left Liverpool.
So at the end of the season, the 32-year-old is free to talk to clubs abroad over the possibility of a Bosman move.
LA Galaxy – along with two other MLS clubs – are desperate to sign him as they look to bring the biggest names into their country to enhance the reputation of the sport in the United States.
The Galaxy have of course welcomed a plethora of ageing Premier League stars to the States over the years such as David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Carlo Cudicini.
It is no secret that the Reds’ current club captain wanted to sign an extension to his deal but sadly people behind the scenes have agreed to not offer him a new contract.
There were apparently differences regarding his new potential wage and length of the extension.
Gerrard could persuade the board to keep him on but it is unlikely there will be a U-turn and it seems as though the Reds legend is playing his final few months at Liverpool.
Liverpool fans. On a scale of 1 to 10, how gutted are you that Steven Gerrard is bringing his Liverpool career to a close? Let us know your thoughts below.
