The Leicester City fans are in the Transfer Tavern today, fondly reminiscing of the 2015/16 season – It seems so long ago now….
It is hard to remember that only one year ago, Leicester were the holders of the Premier League trophy.
Their defence of the title last season was much of what everybody expected of them, finishing in 12th position, 49 points off top spot.
Whilst player departures, most notably N’Golo Kante to Chelsea can be attributed to the fall of Leicester, players like Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez stayed at the club to no avail.
Given their form last season, perhaps players such as Vardy and Mahrez should have been cashed in on whilst their valuations were up.
Leicester also didn’t help themselves in terms of players brought into the club during the summer transfer window.
With that being said, here are two players who, if they remain at the club, could seriously hold Leicester back next season.
Riyad Mahrez
Riyad Mahrez won the PFA player of the season after Leicester won the Premier League in 2016.
Last season he was very much so a disappointment to the club and the fans, failing to reproduce the incredible performances of the year before.
It was clear that Mahrez regretted not getting a move away during the summer when his stock was at its highest.
However, now with Roma looking to sign the Algerian winger, it might be best for Craig Shakespeare to move him on now before his unhappiness at the club spreads to other players.
Ahmed Musa
When Ahmed Musa signed for Leicester this time last year, he became their club record signing at £16 million.
Following on from winning the Russian league title with CSKA Moscow the season prior to his move, it looked like Leicester had found a gem in the then 23-year-old.
However, it never worked out. The Nigerian striker appeared in 21 league games, only starting seven of those and only scoring two goals in the process.
It would probably be best for the club to move him on and look to replace him with a competent Premier League striker.
