Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking who can make the grade in their current crop of youngsters at the club. While Jose Mourinho hasn’t always been associated with blooding young players, our resident Red Devils have been impressed with his work on that front thus far.
United have a long history of promoting their youth players, and many of the former academy players can be seen throughout all leagues within English football. Although sometimes a player can burst onto the scene and make an immediate impact at the club, some may not be deemed good enough at this level.
However, sometimes the difficult decision to end a youth products United career has to be made for the good of the player and the club, sometimes it can return and prove a mistake in the example of Paul Pogba but the majority of the time they get it right.
Our landlord alongside our regulars have been drafting up the current United crop and seeing which ones would benefit from feeling the harsh reality of Premier League football. These two will certainly reap the rewards later on, in their careers…
Joel Pereira
The goalkeeper, however talented he is will not get a sniff in at Old Trafford while David De Gea is there. One of the world’s best keepers is backed up with the Argentinian number one Sergio Romero, who in his own right is a top-class keeper.
For the sake of his own career, Pereira would benefit from moving on and carving his own path in the football world. A shame to let such a talent depart, though De Gea’s presence at the Theatre of Dreams will make life difficult for years.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson
Though Borthwick-Jackson impressed at times when given the chance under Louis van Gaal, the full-back has since seen his progress stall. As we’ve seen with Manchester City, players in that position are beyond crucial to top teams these days and surely, considering his current options, Mourinho will look to strengthen there with big money buys.
With that in mind, Borthwick-Jackson should look to move on.
