Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern has been left in complete shock this morning after hearing the news that Sir Alex Ferguson is retiring as manager at the end of the current campaign. Now the news is official, many Red Devils fans are trying to contemplate life without Fergie – something that was almost unthinkable only last week.
The 71-year-old Scot was thought to have a list of players that he wanted to bring to the club this summer as he looked to continue his rebuilding mission at Old Trafford despite claiming the Premier League title back from City.
The lead up into the upcoming transfer window is always an interesting time for United fans with the club continuously linked with some of the finest talents in world football but this year promises to be even more interesting given the fact that Ferguson has now stepped aside with Jose Mourinho and David Moyes amongst the front runners to replace him to the Old Trafford hotseat.
Here in the tavern we expect to see a number of fringe players shipped out and a few new faces brought in to freshen things up. United are known to want to add a goalkeeper, a left back, a central midfielder and a new striker to their squad this summer and we have outlined five players who are ‘most likely’ to end up playing at Old Trafford for the new season.
