The Chrisitan Eriksen saga has been one of the major stories of the window so far.
There have been plenty of stories regarding what the Denmark international may look to do this summer, with a number of those suggestions starting back in the winter.
AS claimed back in January that he was not prepared to sign a new deal with the Champions League runners-up, although that opinion subsequently changed a few months later as there was growing confidence that he would be willing to put pen-to-paper over a new deal (Goal).
The playmaker went public about a potential ‘new challenge’ at Real Madrid with comments he made in an interview with Ekstra Bladet, however, Marca stated Zinedine Zidane did not believe the Dane would benefit his side moving forward and the interest was seemingly put on the back burner.
Fyens (via AS) then stated he was house hunting in Madrid ahead of a possible move to the Spanish outfit and now claims in England appear to back up the idea that a move could be on the cards in the next few weeks.
The Daily Star are stating there is growing confidence that he will, indeed, depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, despite Spurs allegedly being prepared to offer him a new deal worth in excess of £150,000-a-week just a matter of days ago (Evening Standard).
If claims that a deal for Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso could be close to finally getting over the line are true (Mucho Deporte seem to suggest the clubs are getting closer to reaching an agreement over a transfer fee), then it might be best to move on.
As we previously mentioned in an article on the Transfer Tavern, there is no doubting that if he were to leave Spurs this summer that it would be a blow considering his status at the club, however, it might just be better for them to put this whole transfer saga behind them sooner rather than later.
He might have had a rather solid campaign once again in the middle of the field last season, having scored 10 goals and provided his team-mates with 17 assists (Transfermarkt), as well as having provided the most key passes per match (2.1) than anyone else in the team (WhoScored), however, it’s hard to deny the fact he has dipped in and out of form this season.
The Telegraph wrote a piece on him back in April as they looked to uncover the reason behind the dip in his performances, while the great Andrea Pirlo (speaking to Sky Italy via HITC) slammed him for his performance following the Champions League final as he appeared to be rather anonymous against Liverpool.
However, with just over a month still to go, then it would not be a surprise to see the ongoing saga continue for a little while yet.
