Netherlands' Denzel Dumfries scores their third goal
Journalist Dean Jones has revealed what he’s hearing on whether Tottenham Hotspur will be able to sign Denzel Dumfries in the January transfer window.
The Lowdown: Tottenham monitoring Dumfries
TEAMtalk recently reported that Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Dumfries, with a view to bringing the Inter right-wing back to the club to improve on the likes of Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and Djed Spence.
The Dutchman is currently competing with his national side at the World Cup, in which they have progressed to the quarter-final stage, and he has emerged as an integral part of the team, scoring once and assisting twice in their knockout win over the USA.
The Latest: Jones’ comments
Despite interest on Spurs’ behalf, Jones does not believe that the transfer is likely to happen in the January market, telling GIVEMESPORT of negative ‘messages’ he’s hearing:
“I don’t see it as one that’s happening in January. I mentioned this to a couple of people recently and haven’t had particularly positive messages back that it’s expected to happen at all.”
The Verdict: Fantastic player
It will be disappointing for Tottenham fans if they are not able to acquire the £24m-rated gem, but it is no real surprise that Inter are unwilling to sell one of their prized assets, owing to his exceptional recent form.
Dubbed “superb” by journalist Josh Bunting, the Netherlands international has impressed considerably for his country at the World Cup, most notably in the 3-1 win against the USA in the round of 16, earning himself an 8.6 SofaScore rating, the second-highest of any player on the pitch.
With Conte keen on deploying a system featuring wing-backs, the 26-year-old would be a perfect fit on the right due to his desire to get on the ball and drive the team forward, averaging 4.55 progressive passes per 90 over the past year, in the 97th percentile compared to his positional peers.
As such, Spurs should still try to table a suitable offer in the upcoming window, even if a move is currently considered unlikely to transpire.
