Tottenham Hotspur: Fans flock to club’s birthday tweet for Brad Friedel

Many Tottenham fans flocked to a tweet from the club’s Twitter account wishing former Spurs player Brad Friedel a happy birthday as he turned 49 yesterday

After arriving at White Hart Lane from Aston Villa on a free transfer back in 2011, Friedel went on to make 67 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions. He also played for a number of English clubs including the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Blackburn. The veteran goalkeeper notably won the League Cup with the latter in 2002.

The American played 450 games in the Premier League throughout his entire career, keeping 132 clean sheets, making 771 saves, saving six penalties and taking 241 high claims. He completed a staggering 1,231 throw outs before finally hanging up his gloves in 2015.

His performances between the sticks drew plenty of high praise from ex-Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who famously remarked “Brad, again, he’s a fantastic professional, his record of consecutive games in the Barclays Premier League has been amazing” in 2011 (via Goal).

As expected, a whole plethora of Spurs fans fawned over the “absolute legend”, with one supporter tweeting he was a “fantastic keeper” and another adding: “love this guy.”
