Tottenham fans will be eagerly awaiting the opening game tonight at their new stadium, and will not have been able to sleep last night. However, there is one worrying factor going into the game and that is the recent comments from Mauricio Pochettino on Hugo Lloris, as he publicly backed the goalkeeper with his comments on the BBC.

Tottenham fans are in little doubt that Hugo Lloris is a very good goalkeeper, however, the problem lies in his timely and costly errors. It’s all well and good making save after save and playing very well if you’re only going to go and fumble the ball into your own net with 30 seconds left on the clock in a big game, and that is exactly what happened at Anfield on Sunday, so you can’t blame the fans for being upset.
Regardless, it seems that Pochettino is desperate to stick by his goalkeeper, and the Frenchman owes a lot to Poch for the way that the Argentine has backed him through thick and thin. No matter how many mistakes the 32-year-old has made he’s always in line for another start, and even when he went through his rough patch at the back end of 2018 as he was arrested for drink-driving, the Lilywhites’ gaffer kept the faith when most would not, leading to an uproar from the fans.

The Lilywhites would much rather see Paulo Gazzaniga given a run in the side and believe that Pochettino is making a grave mistake by sticking with Lloris.
