Yesterday evening saw Mauricio Pochettino elect to leave both Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane out of his starting eleven as he looked to rest players for their trip to Barcelona on Tuesday. However, in leaving his star duo out, it became the first game in which neither of the two has started since Tim Sherwood’s time at the club.

On that day when neither Kane nor Eriksen started, it was during a 4-0 clubbing against Chelsea in March 2014. A lot of Tottenham fans have been looking at the side that started that day and it’s really starting to hit home how far they’ve come in the last few years under Mauricio Pochettino. The lineup for that fateful day featured the likes of Kyle Naughton, Younes Kaboul, Sandro and Emmanuel Adebayor, and it’s the last the Lilywhites want to hear of it.
Their fortunes were much different last night too, instead of the 4-0 drumming they got when they last left out both Kane and Eriksen, they left the job of beating Leicester to an attacking trio of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son, and it paid dividends as Son and Dele scored either side of half-time to give the travelling supporters something to smile about with a well-earned 2-0 win to take them into 3rd in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites are so glad that they’ve moved on from those dark days and would prefer it if Sherwood’s time at the club wasn’t brought back up.
