In the end, the 1-1 stalemate was enough for Tottenham. However, most fans were left fuming when, with the score tied, Danny Rose had a golden opportunity to give his side all three points and really seal their place in the Champions League last 16. Instead, the 28-year-old fired over after being teed up by Harry Kane beautifully inside the Barcelona box.
88 – Lovely move sees @HKane pick out Danny Rose in the box, but he can’t keep his shot on target and it goes over.

In the end, Rose’s late miss would mean little to Spurs’ progression, but at the time, with Barcelona starting to pile on the pressure and Inter Milan looking relentless in their hunt for an equaliser against PSV, it looked like the defender could have cost them. It wouldn’t have all been on the left-back’s shoulders, as Rose was one of the star men for Tottenham in their win, but plenty of Lilywhites on Twitter let him know their feelings.
To be fair to Danny Rose, he wasn’t the only man to fluff his lines when it mattered. Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen all had chances to score but were let down by their own poor finishing and the brilliance of Barcelona’s stand-in ‘keeper, Jasper Cillessen, who showed exactly why he deserves to be a #1 net man somewhere, even if it’s not at the Camp Nou. At the end of the season, no one will look back at Rose’s miss, or even remember it, but at the time when Rose blazed over, the supporters feared the very worst.

Unforgivable. Got to hit target as absolute minimum. Won’t create many more clear cut chances than that in a game.

Absolutely shocking.

The Lilywhites were fuming as Rose smashed over, but would only be frustrated for a few minutes before the final whistle went and elation ensued.
