Tottenham supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side’s 100% start to the Premier League season come to an end just prior to the current international break.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with fellow high-flyers Watford having beaten Newcastle United, Fulham, and Manchester United in their opening three league games, thus making a very fast and encouraging start to the new campaign. And in taking the lead through an Abdoulaye Doucoure own goal at Vicarage Road, they looked set for a fourth straight victory, only for Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart to net for Javi Gracia’s side to seal all three points for the Hertfordshire-based outfit.
Consequently, there have been many despondent Spurs fans up and down the country in recent times, although they are likely to be somewhat happier at the news that England manager Gareth Southgate will rest striker Harry Kane against Switzerland this evening.
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain on Saturday and looked somewhat lethargic throughout, and having started all four of Tottenham’s Premier League games this term, this all after a busy summer at the World Cup with his country, it’s hardly surprising that he seems slightly off the pace.
Yet Southgate’s decision to opt against playing the Spurs forward at the King Power Stadium this evening is one that has stimulated quite a response from Tottenham fans on Twitter, with many lauding the 48-year-old for making a potentially key decision in a bid to preserve the striker for the whole of the 2018/19 campaign…
