Even with a 3-0 lead going into last night, it was still a nervy affair for the Lilywhites last night. Hugo Lloris will have had the weight of expectation on his shoulders knowing he’d have his work cut out yet the often-mentally-weak shot-stopper stood up and left the travelling supporters wondering where displays like that have been from their captain.

At times throughout the shot-stopper’s days as a Spurs player, his mentality has been questioned when things get tough. Now, though, that has to be put to bed. When faced with what can only be described as a relentless bombardment from Lucien Favre’s side Lloris stepped up to the plate to keep his 100th clean sheet in Tottenham colours in a game where no one expected him to stand a chance.
The nerves were jangling from kick-off in the Westfalenstadion last night and it’s easy to see why. Ahead of the game Dortmund were unbeaten at home this season and had only failed to score once on home soil, in a 0-0 draw with Club Brugge, so until Harry Kane gave Mauricio Pochettino’s side a crucial away goal the fear of an unlikely comeback refused to subside. In the end Lloris made seven saves as he continually denied Marco Reus, Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho on a night the fans won’t forget.

The fans have been lauding Lloris as a hero after last night, and rightly so, all they need now is a favourable quarter-final draw and more top draw displays from their skipper.
