Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold explains Dele Alli’s struggles under Jose Mourinho

Writing on Twitter, reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has shed some light on midfield star Dele Alli and his situation under Jose Mourinho – going on to draw up a behind the scenes theory as to why he hasn’t been included recently.

Alli, who wasn’t included in the matchday squad to face Burnley during Tottenham’s 1-0 away win at Turf Moor on Monday, last appeared for the Lilywhites against Man United.

Gold sheds light on Alli

The Englishman has been snubbed by Mourinho from the team sheet over the last two Premier League match weeks, also failing to get the call for Spurs’ 3-3 draw with West Ham last weekend.

Now, journalist Gold has shed some light on Alli’s situation at Spurs – hinting that his lack of inclusion in the squad could be down to Harry Kane simply ‘taking Dele’s role’ off the table.

Indeed, claiming that could be a reason as to why he has no place in the team, Gold has dropped ‘another view’ from behind the scenes – with Mourinho’s tactics and team choice potentially not allowing Alli to flourish in his usual position.

However, also ruling out the possibility of Alli simply being shunned from the squad, Gold claims that he ‘will be back’ and has implored supporters to bare in mind Giovani Lo Celso’s situation this time last year.

Transfer Tavern take

Mourinho’s emphasis right now on pushing Tanguy Ndombele further forward in a central attacking midfield role could also be a reason as to why Alli has struggled to work his way into the team.

Kane’s form, mainly down to his stellar partnership with Son Heung-min at the moment, has only worsened Alli’s position – but as Gold says – football can change quickly and the 24-year-old could soon be back in the manager’s plans.
