Tottenham Hotspur: Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger close to deadline day Spurs move, according to reports

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham and Chelsea have made significant strides in negotiating a deal for defender Antonio Rudiger – with talks progressing well and an agreement edging close.

Indeed, as per this update, the north Londoners are growing increasingly confident of securing a deal before the eleventh hour as talks continue to gain momentum – with Rudiger emerging as key target after Spurs’ failed move for Milan Skriniar.

Talks between Inter Milan and the Lilywhites eventually ceased, with chairman Daniel Levy failing to negotiate a way around the Slovakian ace’s £45 million price tag (Fabrizio Romano).

Far too high a price to pay this window, a more reasonable loan-to-buy agreement for Rudiger now seems to be the settled fall-back option – and Football Insider claim that a deal is very close.

The Germany international’s desire for a move away, dubbed ‘one of the surprise stories‘ of the transfer window by Sky Sports, has attracted a trio of top clubs in Spurs, Paris Saint-Germain and Serie A giants AC Milan.

Rudiger was left out of Frank Lampard’s last five matchday squads before deadline day, potentially forcing his hand towards requesting a move away to gain more playing time.

According to Sky, the 31-cap ace is eager to play his way back into international contention ahead of the Euros next summer, with Spurs looking set to offer him the minutes he needs.

Given this crucial update, a seventh Spurs summer signing could well be on the way if Levy can do a deal before 11pm.

If the Lilywhites can secure a move in time, Rudiger would become Spurs’ seventh acquisition of the summer, putting the cherry on top of what has been a brilliant window.
