Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Kevin Phillips has tipped Daniel Levy to potentially rescue manager Jose Mourinho with a January signing in the winter transfer market – coming after a ‘big blow for Tottenham’ has emerged in the form of an injury for Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian, who was forced off against Man City, was later confirmed to have a muscular injury – resulting in him missing this weekend’s bout against Chelsea and Spurs’ last Europa League outing against Ludogorets.

Alderweireld injury blow tipped to motivate Levy
Following this ‘big blow’, Phillips has now tipped Spurs to enter the market and rescue Mourinho with a defensive signing – even while Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and summer signing Joe Rodon can take his mantle.
Indeed, as Tottenham have been tipped to challenge for the Premier League title, Levy may wish to strengthen in January following Alderweireld’s strain – with star defender Milan Skriniar heavily linked over the summer.

“It’s a big blow for Tottenham because they have been playing some unbelievable football, and Alderweireld has been key to that,” explained Phillips to Football Insider.
“At least January is only just round the corner so if his injury is worse than first feared they can dip into the market and address that area.”

Even if Alderweireld does return on time, his fitness issue doesn’t bode well for other Spurs players as Premier League stars continue to suffer from fitness issues after lockdown.
If Tottenham are to challenge for the title, reinforcing the squad with some marquee additions may be a wise move on Levy’s part.
