Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes that Christian Eriksen may not want to leave the club for Inter – and may not be so eager to join the Italian giants with Daniel Levy thought to be in discussions over his transfer.
According to Sky in Italy, Daniel Levy is reportedly meeting with Eriksen’s agent over his ongoing transfer situation, which has dragged on from the summer when he revealed his desire to leave Spurs and ‘try something new’.
Sky in Italy has reported that Inter are prepared to pay £11m plus bonuses to bring the Dane to the San Siro this month, though when speaking to Football Insider, Bent suggested that Eriksen will have had loftier ambitions when declaring his wishes to escape north London and will feel short-changed if Inter ends up being his destination.
He said: “I almost feel with Christian Eriksen, it’s got to a point I’m not sure he really even wants to go to Inter Milan, but it’s kind of been forced upon him, now.
“Because he’s made it so clear he wants to leave and I’m sure in the summer he had all these options: Real Madrid, Barcelona, all these top, top teams – no disrespect to Inter Milan, who are a top team – but they would have been [further] down on his list. I don’t even think he even wants to go there but because it’s maybe one of the only options that he’s got, he’s got to take it, really.”

Only Eriksen will know how he truly feels about the links to Inter, though Bent may be onto something given that the 27-year-old was originally linked with a potential switch to the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.
That said, his domestic aspirations may be enhanced at a club like Inter, who remain in the title race in Italy despite some disappointing recent results, while Champions League qualification certainly seems more likely there than at United or indeed, Tottenham at present.
However, the picture back in the summer is rather different to now, and Eriksen may have had alternative preferences – which may have him questioning his decision to go public with his career ambitions in the first place.
With Eriksen still at Spurs, that gamble of sorts can hardly have gone as he had planned. So perhaps Bent is right – though we may not find out for sure until the matter is resolved.
