Tottenham Hotspur: Fans gush over Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as transfer news emerges

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Calciomercato via Ricky Sacks.

Milinkovic-Savic has put in a string of impressive performances for Lazio in recent years and his heroics have caught the attention of a number of major European clubs.

Ever since he arrived at the Stadio Olimpico from Genk for £16.2m, the 25-year-old has established himself as arguably one of the best midfielders in the world, playing in 25 games in the Serie A this season, scoring 4 goals, creating 4 assists, taking 2 shots per game, averaging 1.2 key passes, and successfully completing at least 1 dribble on average (via WhoScored).

Football reporter Ricky Sacks tweeted the news on social media, writing “[CalcioMercato] | Tottenham Hotspur have joined the hunt to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The midfielder has again been in impressive form for Lazio during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring five times and contributing seven assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.”

Although Spurs are keen to bring Milinkovic-Savic to North London, Chelsea and Manchester United are long-time admirers of the Serbia international, and Jose Mourinho will have limited funds to work with in the upcoming transfer window.

The Biancocelesti have made it clear they will let the Serbian leave, but only if the price is right. His market value is priced at £57.6m via Transfermarkt. Therefore, it is unlikely Daniel Levy will splash the cash, given the current economic uncertainty as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

Regardless, many Spurs fans gushed over the journalist’s “superb” transfer update, with one supporter dubbing Milinkovic-Savic as “the perfect signing,” and another adding he is “Dembele-esque.”
