Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has admitted that he doesn’t believe that his teammate Christian Eriksen deserves to be booed by his own fans.
It is well documented that the Danish international wishes to leave the north London club. His contract is up in the summer but he may well leave before the transfer deadline this month with both Inter Milan (football.london) and Barcelona (Sky Sports) thought to be interested in securing his services.
However, despite the fact that he will be leaving soon, Jose Mourinho has continued to play the 27-year-old in recent weeks. But his performances haven’t impressed a section of the Spurs fanbase and when he was substituted against Liverpool recently he was booed off by his own fans (Daily Star).
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Dier believes that treatment of Eriksen is unfair and that the Dane didn’t deserve to be jeered by Tottenham supporters. He said: “He has always been one of the most professional players I have known and one of the best players at Tottenham on the most consistent basis.
“When you look, he has probably played the most games in that period. There is nothing negative to say about Christian. Whatever he has done, he has done with the best intentions. So he does not deserve that from anyone.”
It seems though that Spurs fans are divided on Dier’s comments. Some agree with him and think that Eriksen shouldn’t be booed, whilst others think that it is justified because of the way that the Dane has handled himself of late. Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…

I didn’t hear booing at the match, it must have been a small section of the crowd but Eric Dier is right, Christian has always played his best and made a real difference when came on to the pitch against Norwich.
