Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that the club won’t sign a striker just for the short-term and that any addition must have something to offer in the future as well.
Speaking about potentially bringing a new striker to the club before the transfer deadline, the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager said: “Yeah a new striker needs to come in but to do something you have to do something that is good for our future too, not just good for tomorrow,” (via Ricky Sacks).
Spurs are currently well short up front due to an injury sustained by Harry Kane in their New Year’s Day defeat against Southampton. Indeed the England captain has been ruled out until at least April having had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring (tottenhamhotspur.com).
That leaves them with just one recognised striker at the club in the shape of 17-year-old Troy Parrott, whilst Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura are capable of filling in there if needed.
They have though been linked with plenty of strikers this month including Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan (The Sun), PSG’s Edinson Cavani (El Pais) and Borussia Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer (90min).
Several Spurs fans have been reacting to Mourinho’s comments. Some believe that it means that Daniel Levy doesn’t want to finance any deals this month, whilst another suggested that the would actually be fuming as it means that Mourinho doesn’t want to go for a cheaper, short-term option. Mourinho is no era builder, he’s aiming to delivery trophies inside two seasons. Levy needs to adjust his approach on this occasion. A bit of short termism. Bale and Cavani on loan. There I said it😐

This statement for me could be different meaning to anyone. This could also mean the club is not going for Cavani cos of his age so they’re going for the younger strikers.
