Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to latest transfer news as Jan Vertonghen linked with Inter Milan

Inter Milan are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen in the summer transfer window, that is according to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport via @DailyHotspur.

The Belgian international has been with Spurs since joining from Ajax in 2012 and he has been a stalwart for the club, making over 300 appearances for them in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign (Transfermarkt) and with no new deal on the table, it looks like he may leave north London in a few months time. That means Inter could sign the 32-year-old on a free transfer and according to the report they are planning on opening talks with him soon, whilst it also suggests they are keen on signing Napoli’s Dries Mertens for free too.

After reading that Antonio Conte’s side were interested in signing Vertonghen, many Spurs fans shared a similar reaction on social media. Indeed lots of them were suggesting that Inter were becoming their ‘B’ team having already signed another of their players whose contract was expiring in Christian Eriksen last month.

Meanwhile, others questioned why the Serie A giants keep signing older Premier League players. Indeed as well as Eriksen, they have also brought in the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Victor Moses of late (Transfermarkt).
