Tottenham Hotspur: Fans wax lyrical over Alasdair Gold’s revelation about Giovani Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso has been one of the few highlights of Tottenham Hotspur’s turbulent season so far.

Fighting back from a hip injury, Lo Celso earned his place in the starting lineup under Jose Mourinho, before football ground to a premature halt as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, as the Argentine has made such an impact, the board have decided to make his loan move from Real Betis permanent, with the agreement set to go through in the summer (as per BBC). The 24-year-old signed on the dotted line on the same day Christian Eriksen left North London for Inter Milan.

After arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August 2019, Lo Celso has gone on to make 19 appearances in the Premier League, taking 0.6 shots per game, averaging 0.9 key passes, and successfully completing at least one dribble per game in the English top flight via WhoScored.

According to Alasdair Gold, former boss Mauricio Pochettino foretold “I think Lo Celso is a situation that is not going to be easy” after the Argentina international made his debut. His successor Mourinho later countered: “We know the good player he is, give him time to develop and we think he is going to be a good player for us.”

Unsurprisingly, loads of Spurs fans waxed lyrical about the journalist’s revelation, with one supporter dubbing Lo Celso a “baller” and another calling him a “special player”. One fan even added he is “better than Eriksen.”
