Tottenham Hotspur: Gareth Bale is a ‘big fan’ of Spurs defensive target Joe Rodon

According to Football.London correspondent Alasdair Gold, Tottenham superstar Gareth Bale is a ‘big fan’ of Lilywhites target Joe Rodon.

Rodon emerged as a potential new defensive coup on the international transfer deadline day, with Sky Sports claiming that a deal could be ‘close‘.

The 22-year-old, who is seen as a new option after failed swoops for Milan Skriniar and Antonio Rudiger, is firmly on Spurs’ radar.

A 6 foot 4 powerhouse, despite his tender age, Rodon has become a mainstay for Swansea City over the last two seasons.

Starting 20 games in 2019/2020 alone, the Wales international averaged a solid 5.4 clearances per 90 whilst completing 81% of his passes (WhoScored). Displaying that fine blend of solidity and composure, Daniel Levy apparently sees him as one for the future, and superstar signing Bale is reportedly also a ‘big fan‘.

Gold, speaking in a video Q&A, claimed that Spurs’ marquee acquisition hugely admires his compatriot. Lilywhites defender Ben Davies also holds Rodon in high esteem, and Tottenham could well be near signing him according to Sky.

The EFL bonus window shuts on October 16, so Spurs will have to get a deal done before then. He could allegedly cost Spurs up to £20 million as Swansea look to profit off his potential.

Deemed too high a price for Levy, Tottenham’s chairman may need to quickly negotiate around that lofty price tag.

A ‘fantastic‘ defender according to Swans boss Steve Cooper, it’s no secret Rodon could be a diamond in the rough.

Praise from Spurs’ most high profile summer signing certainly goes a long way too, but only time will tell whether the club get a deal done before the domestic deadline day.

Spurs fans, will your club get a deal done for Rodon? Have your say in the comments down below…
