According to an update by Sky Sports, a Tottenham ‘deal is close‘ to sign Swansea City defender Joe Rodon as the eleventh hour draws near, and if chairman Daniel Levy manages to get a swoop over the line, he will become the club’s seventh summer signing in what has been a window to remember.
Joe Rodon, yes or no Spurs fans?
Yes, absolute beast
No, would have preferred Skriniar
Indeed, as per this update, Spurs are close to securing the 6 ft 4 powerhouse in a sensational last minute move worth £18 million – potentially putting an end to the club’s hunt for centre-back reinforcements.
Tottenham had suffered from a few setbacks this deadline day, with talks breaking down over a move for Inter defender Milan Skriniar and Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger, but now Sky are claiming Rodon is close to a north London switch as their alternative.
Indeed, as it stands, the Lilywhites are about to resolve their search for a defender with Rodon – who has previously been described as ‘fantastic‘ by Championship manager Steve Coppell.
A powerful young defender, Rodon represents an astute purchase in a market filled with expensive acquisitions – and £18m could be a bargain to pay given his potential and physical presence.
A towering presence already, he started 20 matches for the Swans last campaign – making 5.4 clearances per 90 and winning 5.3 aerial duels on average (WhoScored).
This season, he has continued that form over four Championship matches, all while intercepting 2.3 passes per match in England’s second tier.
Judging by his already impressive accolades, Rodon could prove to be a great seventh summer signing for Levy and co to cap off an unbelievable transfer window.
