In an interview with Give Me Sport, transfer guru and reliable source Fabrizio Romano shared the latest on Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy’s negotiations over a new contract for star attacker Son Heung-min – with the journalist claiming talks are ‘progressing’ and that Spurs are ‘very close’ to tying him down with a new deal.
Son has been a key component of Spurs’ campaign this season alongside Harry Kane, with the duo forming an electric partnership and scoring a combined 22 goals as well as providing 16 assists (WhoScored).
As a result, the club are keen to secure their futures in north London with individual bumper new contract offers, and talks for Son, in particular, have been going on for months.
Fabrizio Romano shares Son latest
Recent reports indicated that the club put contract negotiations for the pair on hold as a financial result of coronavirus, with profit margins and the date of returning supporters still uncertain in this climate.
However, in an update that could ease Lilywhites’ potential worries, Romano claims are talks are ‘progressing’ and Spurs are still ‘very close’ to tying up Son despite the delay.
Speaking to GMS journalist Ste Hoare, he explained:
“At the moment with Son, they are progressing,” said Romano.
“Just because they are close to signing a new contract, they are working by months on this, he has a new agency who are so close to the Tottenham board. So, they are so optimistic.
“With Harry Kane, we need to just wait, in this moment it is not easy because of the lockdown and everything, to meet and to do everything with many players.
“So they are working on Son right, then they will talk also with Harry Kane.”
Transfer Tavern take
In light of this update, it certainly seems like it could be positive for Spurs that talks continue to progress behind the scenes.
At the moment, it is unclear when the new deal for Son will be announced, but it could just be a matter of time judging by this latest nugget from Romano.
Described as ‘amazing news for Spurs‘ by Paul Robinson if the club manage to tie down a fresh contract Son, it appears Levy is nearing this eventual outcome.
