Tottenham Hotspur: Kevin Phillips wowed by Sergio Reguilon as ‘shining light for Spurs’ - Tottenham Hotspur News

Speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports regular Kevin Phillips was left stunned by Sergio Reguilon after his impressive display against Fulham – with the pundit branding him a ‘shining light for Spurs’ during their tepid 1-1 draw.

The Spaniard, who signed for Tottenham during the last summer window, coming to north London alongside Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale, has arguably been the more impressive one of the duo since arriving at Hotspur Way.

Starting 11 Premier League games under manager Jose Mourinho, his latest impressive exploits came against their English capital arrivals despite a disappointing result overall.

Phillips wowed by Reguilon

The 24-year-old has now racked up five assists in all competitions, whipping in a perfect cross for Harry Kane to open the scoring against Fulham on Wednesday night.

As a result, Phillips has heaped praise on the defender, explaining he now sees why Tottenham invested heavily in his £27 million capture.

“What impressed me about the assist was his first touch. It was superb. How many times do we see defenders stop the ball dead and then need another touch to knock it out of their feet and cross it? His touch was straight out of his feet, bang, cross.

“You can criticise the defending but sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say, ‘That is a world-class cross.’ It was dying for someone like a Harry Kane to get on the end of.

“He loves getting forward and creates a lot of opportunities. He was a shining light for Spurs.”

Transfer Tavern take

This comes after a recent behind the scenes reveal, with Football Insider sources explaining how Reguilon has blown Mourinho and Spurs staff away with his ‘phenomenal’ showings in training.

Time will tell whether he displaces Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as Spurs’ debatably best summer signing, but he is well on course to compete if he carries on in this vain.
