Tottenham Hotspur: Swansea City defender Joe Rodon talks ‘ongoing’ as Spurs edge closer to move

Speaking in a Football.London Q&A, Spurs journalist Lee Wilmots has issued the latest update on Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.

Alongside fellow correspondent Alasdair Gold, the pair discussed how likely Tottenham are to sign the 22-year-old before October 16.

Spurs’ latest move…

While the 6 foot 4 powerhouse’s price tag could be an issue, currently around £18 million, Wilmots claims ‘talks are ongoing’ over a potential deal.

Spurs failed to sign a new defender in the last days of the transfer window, with Daniel Levy and co still on the hunt as things stand.

The youngster has emerged as a colossal figure for the Swans and is still firmly on the radar.

As explained in this Football.London video, negotiations have commenced over a swoop, coming as great news after a summer to remember, in which Tottenham managed to land Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vincius and club sensation Gareth Bale.

Now, with the clock ticking on a new defender, the promising Wales international looks likely to be Spurs’ seventh acquisition overall.

A promising update, detailing the ‘as we know’ latest, Wilmots and Gold seem certain that Levy has at least taken action over a swoop.

What would Rodon bring?

According to WhoScored, the towering centre-back started 20 Championship games under Steve Cooper last season. In that time, he averaged 5.4 clearances per 90 and completed 81.9% of his passes out from the back.

Whilst he is seen as one for the future, Gareth Bale and Ben Davies are reportedly huge fans already.

Davies in particular, a compatriots of Rodon’s, would be ‘delighted‘ with a move.

Taking all of this into account, he could definitely become a real Spurs coup – and this update from Wilmots has gifted Lilywhites some encouragement.

Spurs fans, will you be happy signing Rodon before October 16? Have your say in the comments down below…
