Tottenham Hotspur: Fulham enter race to sign Spurs’ Ryan Sessegnon after promotion to Premier League

Fulham have emerged as front-runners to sign Tottenham youngster Ryan Sessegnon on loan this summer, according to reports.

The Telegraph claimed that Sessegnon could be set for a shock return to the Cottagers after his boyhood club secured promotion to the Premier League.

Scott Parker’s side beat Brentford 2-1 at Wembley to bounce back to the top flight one year after they were relegated to the Championship and his former club are leading the race to re-sign the 20-year-old just 12 months after he left Craven Cottage for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham are reportedly reluctant to let Sessegnon leave this summer but he has struggled for game-time under Jose Mourinho, starting only four matches in the Premier League last season.

The England under-21 international, who is currently valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, wants to be playing regularly. He is apparently open to a sensational return to Stevenage Road, having made more than 100 appearances for the Cottagers after breaking through the youth ranks into the first team.

The versatile left-sided player was named Championship Player of the Year as a teenager just two seasons ago as the then-17-year-old helped Fulham to reach the top flight.

Mourinho has more than enough on his mind at the moment, as the Lilywhites leaked goals for fun last term, and he knows he must find a striker capable of covering for Harry Kane. The Portuguese has plenty on his plate and taking Sessegnon off his hands for the time being could be best for all parties involved.

While Sessegnon has largely failed to replicate the form he enjoyed at Fulham, it is worth remembering that he scored his first goal for the club away at Bayern Munich, becoming the youngest Spurs player to score in the Champions League in the process.

His versatility is creating more problems than answers, as Mourinho can’t seem to figure out where the youngster’s best position lies. The Spurs head coach cannot give Sessegnon his undivided attention and a loan move would enable the 20-year-old to find out for himself where he best fits, while at the same time allowing him to gain valuable experience and continue his development.

Tottenham fans, do you think Daniel Levy should send Sessegnon out on loan? Let us know your views in the comments below!
