Will next season finally be the season that sees Tottenham Hotspur go all the way in the Premier League?

The past two seasons have seen Mauricio Pochettino’s men fall just short and the thought in the Transfer Tavern is that the Lilywhites could really do with winning a major trophy just to appease this current squad of talented players that the club possess.

Preferably, this would be the Premier League but there are many Spurs’ fans in the Tavern that would just like a trophy to celebrate come the end of the season and they’d love it to be the Poch who provides it for their club.

Our landlord has given his view on what Spurs need to do in order to go one step further in the league next season and that is to improve the depth of their squad with quality players. He notes that the Lilywhites could do with one or two more midfielders in order to take the pressure from the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen and it is safe to say that some of the Spurs punters in the Tavern agree.

It is a debate that has gone on for a while in the Tavern and our landlord has outlined TWO midfielders he believes Spurs should sign.

Ross Barkley

With Barkley and his club, Everton, seemingly still discussing contracts – Spurs could well be a perfect destination for the young Englishman as he looks for a new challenge to help progress his career.

Of course, he wouldn’t be guaranteed first team football under Pochettino but signing Barkley would make a statement and add to the quality of the depth within the Spurs squad, whilst another English addition would be fantastic for the North London outfit.

Everyone in the Tavern is none the wiser over Barkley and his future but it is no secret that this would be a major coup for Spurs.

Thomas Lemar

With Bernardo Silva joining City from Lemar’s club Monaco, the thought in the Tavern is that the young Frenchman may also look to be on his way out with Spurs a potential destination.

He was one of Europe’s breakout talents last season, becoming a star in Monaco midfield.

An attacking player, Lemar is best used on the left-hand side – and he was utilised to devastating effect last season, bagging 9 league goals and 10 league assists.

What a big signing he would be.
