Silverware still eludes a Tottenham side who have looked impressive for many seasons.
Mauricio Pochettino will be planning for what will be a historic season for Tottenham Hotspur, as the club are set to move into their new stadium. Another season which saw the club finish comfortably inside the top four, and seeing off eventual Champions League winners Real Madrid 3-0 at Wembley, was clouded by the club still not winning a major trophy.
The Argentine has a lot of faith in his squad, which is spearheaded by one of the best strikers in the world in Harry Kane. However, it would be an oversight by Spurs to not add to their squad in the hope to improve it. Particularly with all the clubs around them spending big and improving, standing still might take Tottenham backwards.
There are certain players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad who look like they just do not belong in this era of the club. In a team full of internationally rated stars, some players stand out as simply not being good enough for Tottenham.
With that in mind, here are three players who just shouldn’t still be with Spurs…
When your main striker is the lethal Harry Kane, any striker is going to look weak by comparison.
However, Janssen looked poor in comparison to any striker in the Premier League, not just superstar Harry Kane. His performances in the 2016/17 season for Lilywhites lead everyone to wonder how he had scored so many in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar.
One paced, poor finishing and lacking in confidence, Janssen stumbled to two Premier League goals in the entire campaign.
After a relatively uninspiring loan spell at Turkish giants Fenerbahce, it is time Janssen left North London in search of pastures new.
The 23-year-old French winger has shown very little in his time in the Premier League.
Another player who looked out of sorts in the 2016/17 season, he was another player who spent last season on loan. However, even in a Burnley squad who looked in great touch all season, N’Koudou did very little to impress.
The winger seems to flatter to deceive and has had no end product whilst in England.
This player should be sold by Tottenham, and they should look for an upgrade with more potential. They will struggle to recoup the £11m they spent to bring him to White Hart Lane.
Although he had a better second season in North London, Spurs fans will still be wondering why they spent £3om to sign the player from Newcastle United.
At 28, Sissoko could still be sold for a sum which would make their initial £30m outlay less hard to swallow. If the club is serious about winning silverware, they need to move on players like Sissoko, who are average in this Spurs side.
Perhaps a return to the French League would be a good move for Moussa.
