Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened discussions with Napoli to sign Arkadiusz Milik this summer.
Jose Mourinho has identified Milik as a possible transfer target as he is currently holding contract talks with Napoli and the forward could leave the Azzurri in a matter of weeks if he refuses to agree to a contract extension.
Football journalist Nicolo Schira tweeted the news on social media and this announcement was re-posted by Ricky Sacks.
Milik has been in fine form for the Azzurri over the past couple of seasons but it appears he could be set for a shocking departure.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported that the Italian giants are prepared to sell the striker in the upcoming transfer window after Dries Mertens signed a new contract earlier this week and they are looking for £45m to seal the deal.
After arriving at the Stadio San Paolo from Ajax for £28.8m in 2016, the Polish international has enjoyed a prolific spell with Gennaro Gattuso’s side, scoring 46 goals in 109 appearances for the Naples-based club so far.
Mourinho is in the market to find a backup to ease the burden on Spurs talisman Harry Kane and the Lilywhites have been linked to a number of European stars so far, including the likes of Victor Osimhen and Vedat Muriqi.
As it stands, it seems unlikely that Tottenham will gain a place in the Champions League at the end of the season as Mourinho’s men are currently eighth in the Premier League, and the club would duly miss out on the lucrative rewards. Therefore, the board may be unable to meet Aurelio De Laurentiis’ steep asking price for Milik.
